What are the Six Commandments of the Laptop Lifestyle? Well, these are the foundations of a business that you can take with you wherever you go. It’s a business with its own rules and habits. It’s about a business model where the way your life is the core of all.
This blog post is the start of a series where I share some insights on how you can start building your own Laptop Lifestyle Business. This business is about freedom at work and around the way you want to live.
The laptop lifestyle is not something you will achieve overnight. I know people who achieved it very fast, but mostly it takes its time. For example, in my business, it took a while until I could go from a full-time job to a part-time job. And the next step is to make the transition to living the laptop lifestyle to its fullest.
The Integration Of The Six Commandments Of The Laptop Lifestyle
There are several things you need to build your laptop lifestyle business that is sustainable over a long time. To make the transition to full-time online entrepreneur and living the lifestyle of your dreams, you need certain stability in your business. Here are the six commandments of the laptop lifestyle you need to prosper in this industry:
- Laptop
- Website
- Product / Service
- Traffic
- System
- Business Structure
#1 Laptop
The laptop is, of course, the foundation of the laptop lifestyle. Without a laptop, you can’t really build this independent business. I mean independent of the place you work and build your business.
Of course, you can build this kind of business from your desktop computer. When I’m at home I work on both, my laptop and my desktop computer. The only gadget that gives you flexibility is the laptop. It’s easy to take with you, and you can work wherever you want.
#2 Website
A website is a must-have when you want to control your business. There are many things you can promote with a website and also different kinds of businesses you can set up with your website.
When it comes to a website, there are many things you have to consider. From hosting, layout, functionality, and many more things like tracking. Another very important thing is to collect data from your customers. How do you get the email address from the visitors of your page to send them a newsletter? These are all things that are important when you build your business.
#3 Product / Service
To make money online, you need some kind of product or service to sell. The best website is worth nothing when you don’t sell a product. When you already have a business, and you want to promote your products or services online, then you know what you want to sell.
When you are starting new in the business world, then there are several options to start with it. One thing, you can do, is to create your own product, the other way is to sell other people’s product. Very often it’s the best way to start selling other people’s products. There are several platforms out there where you can search for products to sell.
#4 Traffic
The best website does not serve you when nobody comes to your website. You need people who visit your site. That means you need the traffic to your site. There are so many ways to drive traffic. From search engine optimization to pay-per-click campaigns on Google or any other place like Facebook.
The more traffic you get, the more likely is that you make a sale. When you have a lot of money, then it’s easy to drive traffic through paid campaigns. Without spending money on advertising, you need to learn some skills to bring people to your site.
#5 System
You need a system that is working for you 24 hours, seven days a week. Either you build your own system, or you join a system. When you start in the online world, it’s better to join a system as I did with the Mentors. They provide the whole system from web hosting, landing pages, training up to products you can sell and earn a commission. I made there most of my money.
The better the system works, the less you have to do. When you lookout for a system to join, make sure they have good support. When you have your own system, make sure you have a programmer who can help you to solve problems.
#6 Business Structure
The last point here is about the business structure. What kind of legal form do you want with your business? At this point, you have also thought about what is needed to fulfill all the regularities from the government. What kind of insurance do you need? What kind of bookkeeping do you need for your business?
When you start your own business, you have to think of all these questions. It’s not only it\’s about making money from the laptop. You are an entrepreneur, and therefore you have to fulfill certain things like any other company.

With these six commandments of the laptop lifestyle, I want to give you some guidance on how to start and what you have to consider. This blog post is only the overview. I will provide you with a series of posts where I go more into the depth of every point I listed above.
As I mentioned, building a business is a journey and not an overnight thing. The more clarity you have where you want to go the better. With my series about the six commandments of the laptop lifestyle, you will see how you can implement each part step by step and build a solid foundation of business on your own terms. Life should be fun and with a laptop lifestyle business, you have more options to enjoy life and have fun.

Hey Bruno, when I seen the title I had to see what it was about. It is nice how the laptop can go on business trips and vacations so we can keep getting paid! Good job on the 6 commandments of the laptop!
Or instead of a Laptop, it’s a tablet. And instead of a website, you use an existing platform. And instead of building a system, you could join any other affiliate system like you did. And then minus the Business structure.
E.g. the 5 Commandments:
1.Tablet
2.Platform
3.Product / Service
4.Traffic
5.Affiliate System
I agree with you that you can work with a tablet. But many things work better on a laptop. I was several times happy about that I took my laptop with me and not only a tablet when I traveled.
The thing is with the website that you have more control over your business. You are more independent when you have your own website. You can promote what ever you want when you have your own site on an independent server. I use also affiliate business system but I don’t want to be too dependent on them. And it’s your business you are building. The more independent you are the better on the long term.
And the thing about the business structure. It depends where you live. In some countries you have to set up a company to make business on a legal way and also that you can profit from tax deduction.

I just will add consistency and you are golden.
Absolutely agree with having your own website,
using social media platforms is great
but you don’t really own them and you never know
how long you have and when all will be gone.
If you want to own your business you have to own your platform.
Trust me I learned this the hard way…:)

But with patience and persistence it is possible. I know..I live it lol.
I like each of the six points you have made. My special take-away here is
#2 – website. Having our own site and host is a must in my opinion. We have full control. It is our home rather than rented space on a business site.
We can create a great opt-in on our side bar to get people into our sales funnels.

Your list, are the exact reasons why I ditched my desktop and bought my personal laptop. A handy laptop that I can carry almost anymore gives me that liberty to flip and start writing for my blog sites whenever an idea pops out of my head.
The advantage is that you can take your business with you with the laptop. When I travel around, I have always my laptop with me.
Wow, that’s some list! Although I do think the niche matters. I would want to build relationships with like-minded people not just anyone randomly. I actually don’t use this plugin. I use Disqus which has worked out ok but I do miss some of the follow-up features, like when I get notified of responses from CommentLuv. I always feel like its such a hassle to switch those kinds of things and make sure nothing gets lost. We’ll see how things go because lately Disqus is on my nerves with the way it deals with spam so I may just be adding myself to that list too!
