Shiny Objects by Bruno Buergi
Why Shiny Objects Don’t Help To Grow Your Business

Shiny objects appears all day long when you are an internet marketer. But are these so called „biggest opportunity ever“ and so on really help you to build a sustainable business from home, so that you can quit your job?

What all these shiny objects have in common, they all provide you with the „one solution“ to change your life and make you financially free. But, is it true? Is there really „the solution“ out there to quit your job, order the Ferrari and buy the dream home?

My Experience With The Shiny Objects

As soon as people see that you are an internet marketers and have some consistence in your activity you get bombarded with the next big thing that changes your life.

Often on a daily basis I get pitched from people about new opportunity. And I have to be honest, it happens that I look into these „wonderful opportunities“ that will safe my life. But fact is, more often than not, I get distracted.

I get distracted from the work I have to do to create my dream life, the laptop lifestyle. Why are these shiny objects a distraction? The thing is, when someone offers you an opportunity, you have to stop, or worse not even beginning, your work on your business. And every distraction cost you time and money.

It cost you time, because you have to watch the presentation. It cost you time, because you think about and your thought don’t let you go back to work on your business. It cost you time, because you need much more energy to go back to your daily routine.

It cost you money when you join such shiny object. Because you think, this is exactly the one thing that grow my business even faster. The reality is mostly the opposite. You have to start at the beginning in these opportunities. You have to read instructions, you have to watch videos, you have to set up your funnel and your links and so on.

How To Handle The Shiny Objects

You see, there is not really a short cut to success with these shiny objects. I will not say, that these opportunities are bad. They can be real good businesses. The question you have to ask yourself every time someone else offering you a new opportunity, is it really worth looking into this and will it really serve me?

Whatever business you are in, you have there the potential to make a living with it. The key to success with your business is, that you are persistent, improve your skills and take daily massive action.

Fantastic post Bruno! 100% agree with you 🙂 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on shiny objects 🙂 Shared for you as well!

It is so easy to fall into this trap. I think it’s fear that someone has something better than us that makes us do it.
The real challenge is to pick what we want to do/work with and then stick to it!
Your key to success is spot on!

Thanks Valerie. I agree with you that fear of missing something important can be a reason.

Great advice Bruno and I have to admit I am so guilty of SOS – I have a clear up every so often and then still seem to get caught for another one but I have put my foot down now !! Thanks for sharing and the reminder !!

      Spot On Bruno!
It all comes down to planning the tools and training you need for each step in your business… and not getting distracted until you need to move on. This is not always easy, and it helps if you have a fellow leader, member, friend, group to discuss these things with.
The fear of loss is huge… but as you point out, we often lose more time, money and focus by taking on things that we are not ready for.

You’re right Jacs, it’s not always easy to stay focused on your projects without distraction.

      Hi Bruno,

I think at times if we’re struggling with a particular area then purchasing something that can help us with that one thing is important. But you have to go through the product and apply what they say in order to continue moving forward.

I think we’ve all been lost eyeballing shiny objects. Everywhere we see we’re being bombarded with them constantly. Like you said though, you have to focus on what you’re doing at the moment and be persistent in your action steps in order to get your desired results.

As newbies we’ve all run into this problem but as seasoned marketers we all know better. I hope everyone is able to stay focused moving forward.

Thank you for your message today and enjoy what’s left of this week.

Thank you Adrienne. Yes, we all learn over time. I wish you too a good rest of the week.

    • Bruno: You nailed it with your “is it really worth looking into this and will it really serve me?” observation. Even more important in my opinion, is the “is this in line with my passion and will I enjoy serving my target market” question. If both of these are true you will have the stickability to stay with it and provide the added value that will set you apart and reward you financially. #InMyOpinion prp
