Procrastination by Bruno Buergi

Procrastination is the one thing too many people aren’t achieving their goals and dreams. It’s not that people are lazy. The thing is, that so many things are going on. It’s so easy to get distracted nowadays.

Another thing I discussed a short time ago with some of my marketing friends. It’s procrastination. I see it very often, people are starting a new project or a new business and are over motivated and overactive. They start doing some busy work.

But as soon as it comes to going out with the work, for example, publishing a blog post or a video, they start to procrastinate.

Why Do People Procrastinate?

One thing we all agreed on in our discussion was, that people are afraid and the stat to procrastinate. They start thinking that their blog or video, or if doing anything else you working on, is not good enough to share. They think other people will judge them or laugh at them. What a pity.

When you don’t go out with the work you have done and share it, you miss a huge experience. I know, it takes courage to go out, but you will learn so much when you do it.

I do not say, that you should share every crap. But when you have done some serious work, then share it. Whatever other people will tell you then, don’t let them steal your dream. There are too many people who judge other people's work and on the other hand, these people are often the ones who never took a risk to do something new.

Far better is, when you are in a community of like-minded people or when you have a mentor, ask them for feedback. Because this will bring you forward. They do not judge them, they only want to help you to improve and get better.

But with our going out, others can’t help you the same way to move to the next level. Only in this way do you make huge progress. One thing I have to add to this is, you have to be coachable and follow this advice. Of course, not every piece of advice will work for you, but you have at least to look into it and try to implement it. Only then, you will see if it’s working for you.

Lack Of Focus Leads To Procrastination

Another thing we agreed with each other on the call, was lack of focus. When you are not focused on your work, you never achieve your goals at the time you want. One reason for lack of focus can be, that you are not sure if it’s the right thing for you. When this is the case, you should step back a bit and really take some time to get clarity about what you want.

Another thing can be, that you are involved in too many things. Now you have to get clear, about what is really important for you. And when you made the decision about it, act on it. I know, this can be a hard decision. On the other hand, it’s also important for your life, that you go after your dreams. Only then you will find your inner peace.

I hope this short summary helps you to overcome procrastination if you suffer from it. Don’t be afraid to admit that you suffer from procrastination. It’s then easier to come out of it and move towards your goals and dreams.

Great points – it's so easy to fall into the trap of procrastination. I find taking part in blog challenges gives me a focus and incentive to get writing and posting. I'm still finding my way around the blogging world, whether blogging daily is a good or bad thing I'm still not sure, but it certainly stops me procrastinating! Cheers. Andrea

Fun post of important points – yep I procrastinate in the way I'll start a huge project and then wait for inspiration to bring me forward sometimes – and it does in the right time, thankfully!

Great post on procrastination Bruno and I can relate with a lot of this. I know when I did my first video I just didn’t want to publish it but you learn to overcome the procrastination. Thanks for sharing.

I think we all are sometimes guilty of procrastination.

It can be hard when first publishing Bruno, and it is easy to compare ourselves with others and find ourselves lacking… but we each have our own journey, and if we have feedback from our communities based on our own path, then that can be very constructive. It is when we look at others doing well we can feel fear we will never be that good and we start procrastinating.
As you say, doing too much can lead to lack of focus and procrastination.
Thanks for the tips Bruno 🙂

Thanks Jacs. Yes doing one step after the other and focus on the things you do brings the success.
