Make Money At Home
Reading Time: 4 minutes

Make money at home is an interesting concept. After driving to work in the morning and spending about nine hours in the office, one might think starting a home business would be a good idea. After all, working on your own time schedule and without the expense of traveling to and from the office sounds like something we'd all like to do.

Make Money at Home Tips

Get the right insurance for your home business. You'll need to ensure your business property, of course, and if you use a vehicle for business, you might need special insurance coverage for it, too. You may need business liability coverage, and you should also have health insurance if you're not covered by someone else's policy. You should discuss your situation with a qualified insurance agent to best protect yourself and your business against the unexpected, whether it's storm damage, a car accident, or a medical problem. As you see, when you start your make money at the home business there are several things to think about.

Take a measurement of your home office and then figure out what percentage of your whole home you are using for your business. This is important as it will reflect how much of your home costs, including rent or mortgage, you can claim on your income tax. Let your accountant know the percentage and he will tell you how much you can write off. That's one of the benefits of a make-money-at-home business.

Never Give Up Your Make Money at Home Business

Giving up is a recipe for failure, in achieving your goals and success. Even when dealing with the smaller challenges of building your make-money-at-home business, you must persevere and see each task to its end. Quitting or giving up on the smaller problems will only create a pattern that will ultimately lead to giving up on your success.

Do not fall for any hype about get-rich-quick, home-based business kits. Successful make money at home business takes time and perseverance to develop. Any promises about instant success or riches are scams. The only people making money would be the scammers who sell you their business kit. So, save your money and ignore these promises.

Networking is Part of A Make Money at Home Business

Make sure you network with people similar to you via community sites around the web. You can find a host of forums and discussion boards and other areas of interest where small business owners are meeting and discussing strategy and just shooting the breeze about everyday life. Join up and network with other businesspeople.

A great tip for your make money at home business is to make sure that you have all of your electronic equipment hooked up according to safety standards. Do not overload circuits with too much running at one time, and make sure that you have all of your equipment surge protected. This is important to your own safety and the safety of your equipment.

Even if you work with a professional financial planner for your make money at home business, make sure you understand the financials of your business including expenses and income statements. This helps you make appropriate decisions based on an understanding of revenue flow and expenses and how different situations may affect your business.

The organization is Key for a Home Business

Have a place for everything and have everything in its place. There is no worse waste of business time than having to search all over your office for that one piece of correspondence or all over your shop for that one hand tool. Use your time wisely. Organize your business space, and keep it organized.

Participate in trade shows that focus on your particular product or service. Trade shows provide a great way to network with others in your industry. It is also an effective way to promote your business to many potential customers by providing you with a setting to demonstrate your product or service.

There is only one problem with this idea – it usually doesn't work out the way we planned. Small businesses have hidden problems and expenses, and unless you really know what you're doing and have a pretty good cash stash besides, chances are your business will fail. It does work for some people though, so plan carefully and give it a try.

      Hi Bruno
Great article and certainly inspiration for those who are looking to start a home business. It takes discipline to work at home. I certainly fall foul of bad time keeping, letting work leek into my home life and vice versa. I remember Jim Rohn saying that we should make sure our home business is earning more than we are doing at work before we go full time.

So part time is good until you make it.
      Best wishes

Thank you Pete for your comment. I do it at the moment part time. In this way you have the “security” from a job and also time to build your own business.

      Hi Bruno
You have packed a lot of useful information into this post and I just love the fact that you can make tax savings on your house because you run a business from home. Don’t forget about the phone and your heating and lighting costs. Here in the UK we count the number of rooms excluding the bathroom and kitchen and then so long as the room has a duel usage we can claim that fraction of the total rent and council tax.
To know what you are spending on your business it is a good idea to keep good records on a monthly basis. You can then have a rough estimate of the profit you are making and whether you have the money for advertising.

It’ so true, you can save a lot of taxes with a home based business. You only need to collect all your bills and put it into your book keeping.

There are lots of things to think about with a home business – the environment is one I focused on the end of last year and cleared a lot of clutter that was accumulating and had it refitted. So much nicer now as a place to work. Also, networking with other people is so crucial and keeps you focused and not alone in the online world. Great post Bruno with lots of tips to consider.

      • Bruno Buergi

Thank you Kim. I think you go through your home office and your home from time to time to clean it from all the things you no longer need and use. Then you realize how much space you have and how better you can work.

The truth be told it took me awhile to get going. Working endless hours trying to figure it all out. Made tons of mistakes, but you learn from your mistakes. It helps to have connections or people you lean on when you have questions on stuff with your internet marketing ventures.

I would go with an S.Corp vs LLC because it saves you money on taxes. My CPA explained it to me. It saved me 6k last year. Don’t forget you can also right off your internet bill (I have the fastest) mostly for online gaming, but still a business expense!

      • Bruno Buergi

Thank you Garen for your comment. I think most people need a lot of time to get really started. One of the greatest change you have to make is your attitude and mindset about business and work.

I think organization is key if you are going to work from home. Usually you need to utilize a small part of your home and knowing where everything is can be a big time saver.

      • Bruno Buergi

Thank you Nettie for you comment. Organization is really an important thing when you want to have success with your business.

This are very useful tips for homeworking. Usually lots of assumptions are made when branching into homeworking. The setting up and management of a home business should be the same or at least similar to running other businesses.
The only difference is that the responsibility rests on the home business owner.

      • Bruno Buergi

Thank you for Yetunde for your comment. You are right, there is not a great difference between a traditional and a home business. In both cases you need the same attitude to be successful.
