Excuses Begone
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Excuses Begone is a book by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, one of my favorite authors. In his book, he teaches how to change lifelong self-defeating thinking habits.

The question is, why do we all the time stop ourselves? What is the reason that we let that happen? The answer is not so easy. We all have a different history in life. We all grew up in different families and surroundings. These factors have a huge influence on our thinking and our habits.

Excuses Begone Starts With Cognition

When you want that your excuses begone then you have to recognize what they are. You have to identify what pattern you follow when it comes to making a decision to change something and you don't do it. Most people follow all the time the same pattern in their life. It's mostly the same thing that stops them. It doesn't matter what it is you want to change.

For example, you want to lose weight. You know that your health would highly benefit if you would start with regular exercise. You want to undertake something and you start looking for a gym to join. But as soon as it comes to signing in to the gym you hesitate. You say to yourself, I don't have the money because I need a new car. Or maybe you say, I don't have enough time because my boss has set me under pressure and I have to work longer hours in the office.

When you read this, do you see also a pattern in your life? It's not always easy to accept that you have excuses. And it's also not so easy to break a pattern and to start a new way in thinking had behaving.

Excuses Begone – How To Break The Pattern

In principle it's easy. You have to make the conscious decision to change and simply do the things you want to change. I know it sounds a bit strange. In his book Excuses Begone Wayne Dyer has put together seven questions you can ask yourself when it comes to overcoming your limitation and that you can say my Excuses Begone:

  • Is it true?
  • Where did the excuses come from?
  • What's the payoff?
  • What would my life look like if I couldn't use these excuses?
  • Can I create a rational reason to change?
  • Can I access universal cooperation in shedding old habits?
  • How do I continuously reinforce this new way of being?

These questions will help you to overcome your excuses so that you can say “Excuses Begone”. I highly recommend that you read the book by Wayne Dyer to move to the next level in your life. To go for the things you really want and don't let you stop any more from your self-defeating pattern.

Excuses Begone

There were also things in my life that I could have worthy excuses for. For example, when I started with my online business I started doing it in English. English is not my primary language and I never lived in an English-speaking country. I always lived in Switzerland where we speak Swiss German. So you see I could easily say “sorry this business will never work for me”. Most people would say “you are right, it's too difficult to start such a business”.

But I have dreams and I knew that when I want to achieve my dreams then I have to overcome my limitations. It was a conscious decision to join The Six Figure Mentors to start building my online business. I have known that I have to overcome huge obstacles. Was it worth it? Yes, it was definitely worth overcoming these obstacles and my life changed completely. Excuses Begone!

Although what you say about excuses is totally right, there are circumstances which turn excuses into valid reasons ! Telling the difference is important.

      Hey Bruno

Nice to meet you. We should talk soon.

I think we all sabotage ourselves consciously and unconsciously.

Why do we do than do you think we are of success?

      • Bruno Buergi

Thanks for you comment William. It’s often a pattern we inherit from our parents and close surrounding. And I think people are often not aware of these pattern and on the other hand not serious enough to change something about it.

You are right Bruno, excuses just hold us back and they don’t pay the bills either. The biggest thief in our lives is a negative mind full of excuses. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Bruno, insightful post on the control excuses can have on our lives and why it is so important to be clear on why we use them, and if they are adding or subtracting value from us.
The video is great and the book looks like one to add to my collection if I can find room on the shelf! Thanks for the information.

      Hi Bruno

Great post, and sounds a really good book.

Is this new? I only ask because this sounds like a great self help book, one that would fit into most MLM systems…. ydet have not heard anyone talking about it.

Last Sunday we were at a company run training event, and as normal, a company called Knowledge Is King were there….. And I have never seen that book on their stalls…. must check out their website!

Thanks for sharing this, this I would think has to be the number one topic for anyone who is starting self development…. in fact, we often do self development to do THIS ONE Thing.

Funny, we may overcome all with this one book, and philosophy(s)!

Thanks Jon for your comment. This book from Wayne Dyer came out in 2009. I have ordered the book as soon as it was announced. And I read from time to time again in the book.

Will have to put that book on my wishlist….

Excuses, we all do it, sometimes without realizing. And I agree with Derek, Q: Telling the difference is important…. sometimes you give an excuse as to why something wasn’t accomplish, family must come first…

They do however hold many people back from achieving their goals.

I’ve always been curious with this question..

How to you make an excuse not an excuse?

    • Merle Gibbins

Excellent post Bruno and I know it can be hard to change the way you think but if you put your mind to it and know what you want then you know you have the change the way of your mind.

    • Barrie Evans

I love this Bruno. There are too many people who make too many excuses these days. I believe it’s a subject that definitely requires our attention.

    • Rachel Hall

Absolutely Bruno, it is all about breaking those self defeating
patterns, something I have been working on myself recently.

    • John Barton

Hi Bruno – you are right in what you say – it is all too easy to make excuses and before you know where you are life and opportunities have slipped by.

They say you are never too old to tackle something different and if you have the belief in what you are doing now you can still make a major difference to yourself and many others who come into your circle of influence.

You just know now that this is really your last chance to achieve what you want out of life and JUST DO IT!

      Cheers John
