What Are The Challenges When Starting A Home Business

Starting a home business is a challenge most people are not aware. There are many things you don’t know before you start. In this blog post I want to share some experience I made and things I see in this industry why people don’t get ahead when they are starting a home business.

Starting A Home Business Is Not A New Hobby

You must be clear that when you want starting a home business that get off the ground is serious work. When I started, I also thought that set aside 4 to 6 hours a week is enough. But I can tell you from my experience and from the experience of my colleagues in this industry it takes at least 10 hours a week. Even better would be 20 hours each week when you want to leave your job as soon as possible.

One exception I have to make here. When you are starting a home business and you have a huge amount of money for advertising, then it can be different, when you are good in advertising. But most people who starting a home business, like me, want to leave their job. And more often these people have not a huge advertising budget.

Therefore you have to put in a lot of work to learn marketing with a low budget. There are many ways how to do your marketing with a very low budget or even without money. For example, blogging and sharing your blog in different Facebook groups, Google+, LinkedIn and so on. Or starting to chat with people on FB or in any forum. But all these strategies take a lot of time and effort. Otherwise you don’t get results.

When You Starting A Home Business, You Are The Ideal Target

Another challenge when you are starting a home business is the distraction. As soon as people see that you are working from home and building your business, all sorts of people pitching you for their opportunities. And at the beginning, like when I started, you think you have to watch at this opportunity. And believe me, time runs fast. And after a while you will realize, that you have nothing done for your business and you stand in the same place as you started.

I can only recommend you, that you are selfish enough to say no. Even when they say that this opportunity will make you a fortune and you have to act fast, or it’s gone. But believe me, there are tons of such things out there in the net.

I hope these tips help you when you are starting a home business. The place where I learn all my skills and keep accountable to stay on track are the Six Figure Mentors. When you want to learn more about it and how you can make an income with them, then just click here.

Bruno: I love the honesty and refreshing integrity of these posts. Instead of promising wild promises to the gullible, you actually are “telling it like it is”. Your note that “you are NOT starting a new hobby” got me to thinking back to how vital it is that we protect our time from the ‘time thiefs’ – you know them, of course. They are the people who hate their job yet think that it’s OK to waste your time because you don’t have to WORK FOR A LIVING like they do. You are an inspiration, my friend, to me and many others. Thank You, Thank YOU, THANK YOU. prp

    Hi Bruno,

I am guilty of the same thing. When I first started I thought that building an online business was something that I could do in my free time. Working on it just a few hours here and there when I got the chance.

I fell into the trap of believing what some “guru” promised me, “an hour per day and you could be quitting your job within 6 months.”

Well you and me both know that is not true, and I’m so glad that you wrote a post that can serve to help show people that it is a LOT of work!

    Thank you Bruno!

    All the best,

Thanks Jeff for your comment. An hour a day works seldom. When that would be the case, then there would be much more people who earn a lot of money with internet marketing. AT the beginning it takes definitely huge commitment and hard work.

True, I dedicate the whole of my weekends these days to my projects and it still is not enough. I even spend most of the time outside my own website. Well, like the six-figure earners say, I guess the higher you climb, the cooler it becomes. Lovely post, Bruno. Keep the work going.

Thank you for your comment. Especially when you start your own business and when you still have a job or part time job, it happens that you also work at the weekend on your business. On the other hand, the better you get, the less time you it takes to achieve the results you want.
